Hey group, I hear a loud thump when ever I change gears (mostly from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd). I'm pretty sure its not the motor mounts because those were inspected recently.
Could it be the carrier bearings? Anyone had to replace these in the past? What were your symptoms? |

Sounds like a very good possibility. Might want to get under the car and wiggle on the driveshaft at different spots to check for excessive play. Could be any of the joints, the carrier bearings, or the rubber around the bearings. They are not that hard to change and if you go to www.vfaq.com and look under the drivetrain section they have two articles with pics on the possible problem and a fix for it... I had a 92 AWD Talon but never experienced the thump, I have only read about it.

It's probably the differential bushings, check them for dry-rotting and leaking. See if you can wiggle the diff up and down
